For this unit students will...
1. determine guiding questions for their inquiry.
2. write letters to pen pals living in countries with high poverty rates in order to connect with those who struggle everyday with those living in poverty.
3. determine characteristics of poverty and causes that contribute to the persistence of poverty.
4. research issues for those living in poverty, create maps/ charts of these issues, and report about these issues.
5. make connections as to how poverty issues overlap and contribute to the complexities of eradicating poverty.
5. Students will discuss the issues and complexities to addressing global poverty.
5. Students will create a fact sheet that raises awareness of specific issues related to living in poverty.
6. become familiar with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and how it applies to the need to eradicate severe poverty.
