Living in poverty effects billions of people around the world. For those who live in poverty, the struggle to have clean water, good education, and good healthcare greatly reduces their quality of life for individuals and reduces the independent sustainability of the community. The difficulties to meet basic needs also contributes to an ongoing cycle of poverty. The impact of poverty on the global community has been widely recognized, and many government agencies and non-profit organizations are working together to address these issues and improve the quality of life for people everywhere. For this unit, students will explore many of the issues that plague those who live in poverty and means to fight poverty. Students will explore progress that is being made to fight poverty and issues that contribute to its persistence. Ultimately, students will address the question "Many strides have been made to improve the lives of those living in poverty. Is it possible to eradicate severe global poverty?"
